Newport has always embodied extravagance. After all, you don’t gain a reputation as the epicenter of elegant excess for nothing. One place to experience Newport’s distinctive grandeur in full bloom? The Newport Flower Show this June 24-26. Dating all the way back to the Gilded Age, flowers have long been a comely component of Newport’s past, present and future. Here’s what you need to know to make the most of the season’s hautest horticultural event this weekend.

Flora, Fauna and Festivities

As the country’s premier flower show, the Newport Flower Show puts all of Newport’s extraordinary offerings at your fingertips. This year’s event promises to take things to luxurious new levels with its theme, “Gilded-Artful Living,” a testament to nature and nurture on divine display in Newport’s gracious gardens, floral designs, and window displays.

Things kick off later today with the Opening Night Party. This much-anticipated start of Newport’s exhilarating summer season includes a scrumptious cocktail buffet for $190/per person ($160/Preservation Society Members). The floral fun continues throughout the weekend with exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, kids’ activities, and much much more. Savor the timeless tradition of afternoon tea or a champagne and jazz brunch; take in a lecture from iconic American designer Bunny Williams or floral designer-to-the-stars Bruno Duarte; amble through the Cercle de la Sphère Dorée Display Gardens on the majestic front lawn at Rosecliff; or do some truly unique retail therapy at the Oceanside Boutiques or Gardeners’ Marketplace.

The Future of Flowers in Newport

The best part of packing all of this beauty into one wonderful weekend? It has a vital purpose. All of the proceeds from the Newport Flower Show benefit the Preservation Society of Newport County with single day tickets costing just $20 for adults and $6 for youth ($25/$6 at the door). As Rhode Island's largest cultural organization, the Preservation Society of Newport County is in charge of protecting, preserving and presenting the very best of Newport County's architectural heritage from the Colonial era onward.

From organized events to laid-back leisure time, the entire weekend of the Newport Flower Show is set against a beautiful backdrop of Newport’s fabled flora and fauna. And speaking of laid-back leisure time, there’s no better place for soaking it in than here at The Chanler. Contact us today to book your stay.
