What do you get when you combine two award-winning Rhode Island-bred chefs, sublime food with six exquisite Chappellet wine pairings, and the inimitable Chanler setting? September 26th’s inventive “Roots and Vines” event.
Executive Chef at Barrington’s Restaurant and Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival Special Guest Chef Bruce Moffett and The Spiced Pear’s own Executive Chef Thomas Duffy have collaborated to prepare an outstanding six course wine dinner inspired by their shared Rhode Island heritage and elevated by selections from Chappellet Winery -- crafted in California’s fabled Pritchard Hill and sought after by the world’s most discerning collectors.
Hailing from Barrington, Rhode Island by way of Atlanta, Boston and Charlotte, 2009 James Beard Nominee Chef Moffett’s innovative cuisine honors the rich culinary heritage of New England with the occasional southward nod, while Chef Duffy is known for his own adventurous approach and commitment to all things local and fresh. Together, they offer an unforgettable fusion of the customary (lobster, natch) and the cutting edge.
Also attending the festivities will be Chappellet Winery’s Cyril and Blakesley Chappellet, as well as Blake Gilbert, Sales Head for the East Region. As Chairman of the Board of Chappellet, Cyril is joined by his wife, Blakesley, in serving as modern-day stewards of their family’s famed Napa Valley institution. “Roots and Vines” guests will not only dine alongside the Chappellets, but will also enjoy a talk from these vineyard visionaries while sipping vintages from Chappellet’s iconic collection, including the evening’s featured wine -- the earthy, lush and divinely delicious Chappellet 2009 Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon.
