While we often wax on about Newport’s rich sailing history, our seaside city also boasts a legacy of something much more sip-worthy than saltwater. We’re talking about craft beer, and there’s no better time to imbibe some uniquely delicious brews than during The 5th Annual Newport Craft Beer Festival this weekend on April 29th & 30th.
VIBs for VIPs
At The Chanler, we consider all of our friends to be VIPs, which makes the VIP Session -- that’s “Very Important Beers” -- a perfect way to kick off the weekend. Head to Newport Storm Brewery on Friday night for an intimate event during which you’ll have the chance to chat with the brewers while sampling some of this Rhode Island craft beer mainstay’s most distinctive selections -- including some you won’t see anywhere else all weekend.
Tickets are going fast so if you get iced out of the action, you can still stop by the brewery for a tour or tasting, or enjoy one of their signature small batch selections during an exquisite meal at our award-winning restaurant, The Spiced Pear.
The Main Event
On Saturday, the Lawn of the Great Friends Meeting House will play host to two beer-tasting sessions during which festival-goers will sample craft beers from the country’s best brewing companies -- from Petaluma to Pawtucket. Not to mention the offerings of boast-worthy brewers from our own “backyard,” including hometown favorites like Trinity Brewhouse -- also available at The Spiced Pear. All of this while listening to live bands and noshing on comestibles from some of Newport’s best local restaurants? There’s a reason why this event is an annual sell-out. If you have not had the chance to purchase tickets for this year's event, we suggest you definitely purchase them well in advance for next year.
Who doesn’t love a good beer fest, let alone one with a Newport twist? And now for the best part: All of this festival fun benefits an amazing cause, the Rhode Island Brewers Guild & Newport Historical Society. We can't think of a better excuse to indulge.
