What do you get when you bring together a visionary from one of Europe’s greatest wine families and one of the iconic pioneers of the New World wine scene? Of course, we’re talking about the epic partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Bordeaux’s Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi of the eponymously named Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley. This partnership would eventually lead to the founding of one of California's most groundbreaking wineries. We're honored to present The Wines of Opus One in our next Tasting Series event at The Spiced Pear.
An Opus Event
The word “opus” refers to a significant artistic work. Certainly, the title applies to Opus One’s offerings, which are not only considered to be among the Napa Valley region's most sublime wines, but are also featured on the wine lists of many of the globe’s finest restaurants.
Also promising to be an opus in its own right? The Spiced Pear’s wine tasting and culinary event showcasing Opus One. Guests will nosh on an inventive menu comprising five exquisite courses, including crudo and tartare with native fluke citrus pearls; an empanada duet; Angus rib eye cap with wild mushrooms, truffle croquette, and bone marrow; Colorado lamb with preserved lemon herb jus and a potato latke. Each masterful menu item will be partnered with a complementary Opus One wine, including a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, which fuses a seamless mid-palate with soft yet sinewy tannins; and an elegantly balanced 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, which unfolds in the mid-palate with velvety tannins enrobing a center of concentrated black-fruit.
The consummate finishing touch? House made fruited chocolate truffles paired with a 2012 Château Haut Charmes from Sauternes, France.
A Pioneering Presenter
The preeminent status in the wine world of Opus One founders Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi calls for an equally esteemed presenter. Which is why we’re delighted that J. France Posener, a pioneer for women in the wine industry and currently Eastern States Divisional Manager for Opus One Winery, will take on presenting duties. This cork-juggling, book-writing, weekend gardener and recreational chef is an expert on all things Opus One, and will serve as the afternoon’s guide and wine educator.
Whether you’re a longtime Opus One aficionado or just discovering its remarkable wines, we can think of no better way to spend an afternoon than indulging in a brilliantly cultivated bounty of world-class food and drink. The Opus One Tasting Series will be held on Sunday, March 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm at The Chanler’s Spiced Pear Restaurant at a price of $190 per person plus tax and gratuity. Limited seating is available, so call 401-847-2244 today to reserve your place at this premier wine tasting event.
