Enjoy the Fruits (and Wines) of Ferrari-Carano’s Labor

Ferrari-Carano’s meticulous vineyard practices give new meaning to the phrase “fruits of labor.” Guests at The Spiced Pear will enjoy a sublime taste of what truly extraordinary efforts produce during the Ferrari-Carano Tasting Series at The Chanler this April 9th.

Going the Extra Acre

Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery began in 1979 with a small 30-acre plot of grapes. Since that time, it has not only grown to comprise 24 estate vineyards in six different appellations totaling more than 1,500 acres, but also lays claim to some of California’s finest wine growing properties.

What makes Ferrari-Carano stand out amidst all of California’s acclaimed offerings? For starters, there’s its commitment to the paramount role grape source and terroir play in facilitating a consummate product. This means harvesting the grapes in the cool of night to ensure the crispest and most intense fruit flavors; using a whole cluster fruit press to further intensify the extraction; allowing grapes to settle naturally in stainless steel juice-settling tanks without aggressive centrifuge handling; and creating an ideal environment for wine development thanks to five barrel cellars each precisely suited for the fermentation and aging of superior wines.

But Ferrari-Carano is not content to rest on its reputation. Under the direction of Don Carano, research and development remain an ongoing process. The vineyard houses an experimental cellar as well as two labs aimed at applying new procedures toward even more remarkable results. Additionally, Director of Vineyard Operations Steve Domenichelli and his team employ innovative sustainable farming techniques to support biodiversity and nutrient recycling.

An Exquisite Event

What do you get when you combine exquisite Ferrari-Carano wines with an equally exquisite menu prepared by The Spiced Pear’s culinary craftsman Executive Chef Thomas Duffy? Shrimp and tofu summer rolls with traditional dipping sauces; oysters three ways; duck canapés, chargrilled flank steak, and wild Icelandic lamb with cheddar and pommery mustard spätzle are just a sampling of the decadent delights guests will nosh on during this six-course meal, which concludes on the perfect ending note: an early spring verrine paired with a 2013 Eldorado Gold.

Guests will be guided on this epicurean adventure by Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery’s Cathy Harrison, whose prestigious career has included service in iconic establishments including the Occidental Restaurant in Washington D.C. (where she earned the distinction of being its first “working” certified sommelier), as well as for an impressive lineup of statesmen and women of the White House.

We can think of no better way to elegantly swing into spring than with a tasting at The Spiced Pear featuring the luscious wines of Ferrari-Carano. The event will be held on Sunday, April 9th, 2017 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Space is limited, so call 401-847-2244 today to reserve your spot.
