Don’t have a trip to France and the glorious Grand Trianon of Versailles planned for the near future? We’ve got good news: The annual Newport Flower Show is the next best thing. This year’s theme, “Fête des Fleurs: Paintings and Parterres,” promises an extraordinary European holiday -- much closer to home. Here’s a closer look at the elegant extravaganza waiting for you at Rosecliff this June 23-25.

Imagination and Inspiration

Countless paintings have been inspired by the magnificent palaces and gardens of France. Perhaps the most remarkable of them all? The country retreat of the French kings of Versailles, the Grand Trianon.

But it wasn’t just artists who drew inspiration from the haute home. Also on the list? Architects. Rosecliff was built with these French influences in mind. Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, the mansion was modeled by architect Stanford White after the Grand Trianon -- which makes it the ideal modern-day setting for the Newport Flower Show.

Blooms, Brunch and Beyond

Wondering what floral fun you can expect to find in Newport this June? Held on Friday night, the eagerly-anticipated Opening Night Cocktail Party doesn’t just kick off the Newport Flower Show, but rather the entire summer season. Attendees can look forward to noshing on a consummate cocktail buffet while browsing the Gardener’s Marketplace and Oceanside Boutiques against a backdrop of stunning floral arrangements and horticultural displays. Special entertainment -- and a surprise (or two or three) -- round out the list of reasons this event is an annual highlight of the Newport social scene.

And while participants will enjoy daily access to all of the judged horticultural specimens and floral designs; special garden exhibitions; unique shopping opportunities; lectures and demonstrations with luminaries such as Iris Apfel, Jeff Leatham, and Eric T. Haskell; and champagne and jazz brunch for which the Newport Flower Festival is well-known, they’ll also gain access to brand new events in 2017, including Saturday evening’s “Feast by Moonlight,” a transportive picnic supper and movie showing featuring the 2015 hit movie A Little Chaos.

Single day admission to the Newport Flower Show is just $20, while events can also be added “a la carte.” Or, embrace the full-on Newport Flower Show in its entirety by becoming an American Beauty Rose Patron, a posh package which includes three days of admission along with everything from earlybird shopping to reserve table seating at the Opening Night Party’s VIP tent. The best part? All proceeds from the event benefit the preservation and restoration of the historic landscapes of The Preservation Society of Newport County.

One last, luxe way to optimize your Newport Flower Show experience? A sumptuous stay at The Chanler. Let us give you the royal treatment with everything from chauffeur service to and from the event to a post-show meal fit for kings and queens at The Spiced Pear.
