Boat lovers everywhere, prepare to chart a course to Newport this September! One of the country’s largest and most prestigious boat shows, the Newport International Boat Show -- now in its 47th year -- is packed with boats (natch), exhibits, special events, educational seminars, and training courses all aimed at delivering can’t-miss, float-your-boat fun. Here’s a closer look at what to expect at the Newport International Boat Show this September 14th-17th.
Boats, Boats and More Boats
Spanning 13 acres of the City by the Sea’s extraordinary downtown waterfront, the annual Newport International Boat Show brings together a massive range of domestic and international sailboats and powerboats, along with everything else boating enthusiasts need to enhance their nautical lifestyles.
Want a lead on what’s new and exciting in the boating world, meanwhile? You’ll find it at the Newport International Boat Show, thanks to its extremely popular 'Newport For New Products' (NFNP) program, which showcases 2018 boat and boating products making their United States debut. This year, there will be a new "Green" category with awards given to one boat and one boat product based on the benefits of their green features.
And whether education or entertainment is on your agenda, opportunities abound, including “Confident Captain” at-the-helm training; touring America’s newest Tall Ship, the 200 ft. SSV Oliver Hazard Perry; and the premiere screening of a documentary film, Of Rails and Sails.
Even landlubbers will find plenty to experience at the Newport International Boat Show, including the chance to test drive a Tesla! The award-winning Model X and Model S will be available. Learn about Tesla's most advanced safety and convenience features and how electric vehicles can fit into your lifestyle.
A Scenic Site
We can’t think of a better location for New England’s premier boat show than Newport in the fall. In addition to colorful coastal views that go on for (literal) miles, attendees also have the chance to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of this storied seaside town -- long celebrated for its beauty and bustle. But don’t just take our word for it. The New York Times enthused, “With its summer cottages the size of palaces and its century-old status as a yachting capital, Newport is the quintessential playground of American aristocracy. Still, this harbor town is more than model ships and mansions. The waterfront — with views of wide, tentacled Narragansett Bay — is still Newport’s soul, and the estates along Bellevue Avenue haven’t lost their Gilded Age glamour. But in a town that seems, on the surface, so untouched by time, there’s an undercurrent of youthful rebelliousness. Ambitious upstart restaurants, a boisterous nightlife and a beachy surf culture belie Newport’s staid reputation.”
If you’ve attended the Newport International Boat Show in the past, it’s probably on your calendar as a must-do event for 2017. If not, what are you waiting for? The Chanler is on deck to be your “port in a storm” during this year’s extravaganza, so book your stay today.
