Missy Horgan-Capodilupo has a lifelong love of Newport. While summering in Newport with her family throughout most of her childhood, she fell in love with the town’s many treasures. Today, she is delighted to be able to bring two of her great loves together: Newport and yoga. Read on for more about Missy, along with the 411 on our summer yoga classes at The Chanler.
Getting to Know Missy
Missy has been teaching Vinyasa yoga for the past five years, and currently teaches an average of nine classes a week throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She is also a certified level 3 Reiki Master, and enjoys integrating Reiki healing energy into the savasana part of her yoga classes.
It goes without saying that Missy cites her family -- each of whom, she says, has taught her about herself, her practice, and being a good human being -- as a primary inspiration for her yoga practice. Her daughter, Morgan, just graduated from Emerson College this past spring, while her son, Robert, will begin his junior year at Harvard in the fall. Fans of the local music scene may also be familiar with Missy’s boyfriend, Dave Stejna, who performs in Newport as well as throughout New England.
Additionally, Missy mentions her students among her inspirations. She says, “I am truly inspired by them each and every day. I really enjoy connecting with them and helping them connect with how yoga can help them with their bodies, minds, and lives in general.”
Find Your Inspiration at Yoga on the Lawn
Speaking of inspirations, we can think of none finer than what you’ll find at The Chanler's Sunday “Yoga on the Lawn” series. After all, what better place to salute the sun (and sea and sky) than from the hilltop paradise of our secluded Woodland Lawn?
Appropriate for all levels of practice, this complimentary yoga class for guests ($10 for the public) is held every Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. throughout the summer, and we’re pleased to have Missy as our instructor for the remainder of this season. She says of her experiences as a yoga instructor in Newport, “It is one of the most beautiful destinations, and I am grateful to be able to teach yoga here. I have had the pleasure to meet and teach people from all over the world as well as the amazing locals who live here year-round or summer in Newport.”
“Practicing yoga is a journey that will allow your mind to relax and your heart to shine, on and off your mat,” enthuses Missy. And whether you’re just starting out on your yoga journey or seeking to deepen your practice, Missy and the Lawn at the Chanler are waiting.
