Your Official 2018 Newport Flower Show Guide

Newport is known for its lavish Gilded Age cottages. This year, in honor of the cottage as a staple of Newport history, the 2018 Newport Flower Show will celebrate its importance. The front lawn of Rosecliff Mansion will be turned into a Tiny House Village, complete with six tiny homes and their adjacent sustainable gardens. A Tiny Traveling Theater will also appear on the front lawn and will host rotating pop-up lectures and demonstrations throughout the weekend. Here’s a closer look at the elegant extravaganza waiting for you at Rosecliff June 22nd - 24th.

Imagination and Inspiration

Countless paintings have been inspired by the magnificent palaces and gardens of France. Perhaps the most remarkable of them all? The country retreat of the French kings of Versailles, the Grand Trianon.

But it wasn’t just artists who drew inspiration from the haute home. Also on the list? Architects. Rosecliff was built with these French influences in mind. Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, the mansion was modeled by architect Stanford White after the Grand Trianon -- which makes it the ideal modern-day setting for the Newport Flower Show.

Flower Power

The Newport Flower Show kicks off on Friday, June 22nd from 10:30 am - 5:00 pm, continues on Saturday, June 23rd from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm and concludes on Sunday, June 24th from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Wondering what floral fun you can expect to find in Newport this June? Held on Friday night, the eagerly-anticipated Opening Night Cocktail Party doesn’t just kick off the Newport Flower Show, but rather the entire summer season. Be on the lookout for special guest Martha Stewart and other potential celebrities who may accompany her to the event.  Attendees can look forward to noshing on a consummate cocktail buffet while browsing the Gardener’s Marketplace and Oceanside Boutiques against a backdrop of stunning floral arrangements and horticultural displays. Special entertainment -- and a surprise (or two or three) -- round out the list of reasons this event is an annual highlight of the Newport social scene.

And while participants will enjoy daily access to all of the judged horticultural specimens and floral designs; special garden exhibitions; unique shopping opportunities; lectures and demonstrations, there are some special events that are sure to be on the top of your must-attend lists. Afternoon tea is scheduled for Friday afternoon and will feature tea, sweets and lovely conversations. Dinner & a movie is another favorite activity of flower show guests. Enjoy a movie under the stars with a boxed picnic supper overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday evening. This year's movie choice is the 2016 British romantic drama, This Beautiful Fantastic.  Finally, the annual Champagne Jazz Brunch is the perfect way to start your Sunday morning. Sip champagne while enjoying the sounds of Jazz on the beautiful grounds of Rosecliff.
