This past Sunday, we bid adieu to The Spiced Pear restaurant. We would like to thank all of our guests who experienced dining with us at The Spiced Pear. Whether you have dined with us before or are interested in dining with us in the future, we are delighted to introduce you to an exquisite new entrant to the Newport fine dining scene: Cara at The Chanler at Cliff Walk.
An Inspired Experience
Designed to evoke the enchantment of the Gilded Age, Cara transforms every meal into a celebration of life’s finest things. Under the direction of Executive Chef Matt Voskuil, heralded for his consummate command of contemporary New England cuisine, Cara is the “crown jewel” of The Chanler. Its minimalist menu belies Cara’s inventive and carefully curated offerings drawn from French, Italian and Spanish influences while highlighting the region’s magnificent bounty of fresh and local ingredients from both land and sea.
The memorable meal promised by Cara is matched by a friendly and knowledgeable service team ready to guide guests through each course. A spectacular open kitchen showcasing a custom-crafted French Bonnet cooking suite, a multi-course Chef’s Table, six-course tasting menus with the options to add select and signature wine pairings, a three-course prix-fixe menu and accommodations for parties of up to 20 add up to an exceptionally unique and welcoming environment ideal for everything from intimate evenings to larger events.

In An Extraordinary Setting
Guests of Cara enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean courtesy of The Chanler's stunning Cliff Walk location. Factor in floor to ceiling windows, and a meal at Cara is truly transportive.
Cara's updated interiors are equally remarkable thanks to a dedication to turn-of-the century craftsmanship which infused every facet of Cara’s conceptualization and execution. In addition to working with artisan woodshop Artiplano to build the chairs, chef’s table, booths, and mantel mirror, the Cara design team also collaborated with local artisans to seamlessly honor the spirit of the Gilded Age with elements including magnificent custom flooring by ParquetRue and sublime woodworking by Jutras. (Many of Cara’s partners have also been involved with other Newport Mansion restorations.)
New lighting, curtains, and a custom wine fridge round out the design details that help make every visit to Cara an unforgettable one.
An Invitation to "Meet" Cara
The name Cara translates to “dear one” in Italian and “friend” in Gaelic. Both of these meanings apply when it comes to our approach to reinventing dining at The Chanler and our goal of creating a gracious new gathering place for dear friends -- new and old. Cara's Grand Opening, scheduled for this Thursday, July 19th, will mark not only the debut of an inimitable dining destination, but also the evolution of fine dining in Newport. We invite you to discover both by reserving your table at Cara today.
Cara is open for dinner service from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., seven days a week, excluding Monday
evenings during the Fall and Winter season.
